Design a Tee

One of the newer shops at Downtown Disney Marketplace is "Design a Tee", an interactive shop where you can customize your own souvenir
t-shirt.

Step up to one of the kiosks and start having some fun. They are a variety of colors and styles to choice from. There are more the 100 selections featuring Disney animation or movie characters. You can create your own message or choice one chose one of theirs. The prices range from $18 to $31.

I did not get to make one, yet.  It is definitely on my agenda for my next vacation.

Oh yeah, really cute photo opportunity outside the shop.

Saturday Snacks - Cookie Please

Who is in the mood for a sugar rush?  If you are at Downtown Disney Marketplace go to Goofy's Candy Company and pick up one of this decorated butter cookies.  They are cute and yummy.

OK $3.95 is expensive for one cookie.  He is cute and actually taste yummy.  I do admit that all the baked items I have tried so far here have been good.  There usually is a line, but it is worth it.

Remember you might need a nap after the sugar wears off.

Finding Mickey Mouse

Where can you find this Hidden Mickey? He can be found in Disney Downtown Market Place. He located on the entrance sign for "Once Upon a Toy" store. Make sure you keep a close eye out inside the store, there are many more hidden mickeys to be found.

Characters-in-Flight

One of the newer attractions at WDW is the Characters-in-Flight at Downtown Disney Marketplace. The day we visited, it was closed until further notice due to inclimate weather. Basically it was rainy. That was not the only thing to turn me away from this attraction. The price was to much from my budget. The tickets were $18 for adults and $12 for children. Not bad right, wrong. This was for a 10 minute ride from take off to landing. I am sure the view is beautiful, but come on that is so short. I know there are probably a lot of people who say it is worth it, I know I would have enjoyed it. I would rather take my money and treat myself to an ice cream at Ghiaradelli.

The Potato Heads visit Disney World

I know Christmas is over, but you have to admit that this ornament is too cute to just have out for the holidays. I spotted Mr and Mrs Potato Head at the the Disney's Days of Christmas store in Downtown Disney Marketplace. Even they could not resist buying a Goofy hat and Mickey ears. Hope they enjoyed their time at WDW.

Finding Mickey Mouse

Do you know where this Hidden Mikckey can be found?

Don't forget to look up everywhere you are at WDW.  While shopping for toys this oversized board game can be found at Once Upon a Toy Store, in Downtown Disney.  Now, if only we could actual play with this full sized game.

Sunday's Silly Moments - Spud Monster!

I walked into Once Upon a Toy Store, to be meet by this little Spud.  He could not help put get my attention, he has a Christmas tree on his head.  He does represent one of my favorite free actives at Downtown Disney. You can hang out with Mr and Mrs Potato Head and dress them with your imagination.  How fun is that?

Classic Characters with a Sense of Humor

It was fun to stumble upon this series of t-shirts at the World of Disney shop in the Disney Marketplace.  They really made me smile, to know that Disney had a sense of humor about their classic characters.

Who does this duck think he is?

Don't get twisted Mickey.

Of course faithful Pluto had to follow Mickey's lead.

Now even I know that just is not Mickey.

Saturday Snack - Oero Cookies

OK, so who doesn't like an Oero cookie? These extra large versions can be found out Goofy's Candy Company at the Disney Market Place. The filling is super sweet,  I could not eat a whole one, at once.  They are also available in a variety of flavors.

Saturday Snack - Double Scoop, Please

Simple is oh, so good.  On this hot and humid summer day head over to Ghiradelli at the Disney Marketplace and order a double scoop of  your favorite ice cream.  For only $5.25 you have enough for 2 people.  Eat quick, it will melt.  This is the butter pecan.

Babycakes of NYC at Downtown Disney

In a small corner of the building formerly occupied by McDonalds you can find a little bakery named Babycakes.  Originally established in NYC in 2005, this bakery is known for its hand mixed batches from all natural ingredients. Their bakes treats are gluten free, dairy free, soy free and vegan.

Me being a lover of most things cake, was very excited to get the chance to try anything.  They offer a variety of items including; cupcakes, loaves, brownies, cookies and doughnuts.  I picked out a beautiful looking pumpkin cupcake.

It looked so yummy.  The icing was creamy and not too sweet. The cake was dense, dry, and flavorless.  Why?  I have tried so many gluten free deserts and been disappointed.  Cinnamon and nutmeg are gluten free, please use them in your baking.  Pumpkin can help to add moisture to a baked item, what happened?

I am not sure I will be back at Babycakes to try any other treats.  If some one knows of a great gluten free cookie, cupcake or brownie recipe they think is amazing, please let me know.  I love to bake and would give it a try with an open mind.  I so wanted to love this cupcake, but I really did not like it at all.

The World Famous

The Wold Famous Hot Fudge Sundae

The temperatures are reaching the upper 90s here in Florida,  it actual feels like the 100s.  One of  the best places to get a cool snack is Ghirardelli Soda Fountain in Downtown Disney.  This Sundae lives up to its claim of being world famous.  Just look at.  It contains two scoops of vanilla ice cream overflowing with our freshly homemade hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped almonds, and a cherry for $8.50.  There was plenty for both my husband and myself.

You may also notice my Caffe Mocha.  I know who wants hot coffee in 90s?  Me, I love coffee and will drink it any chance I get.  It was good, one of the better cups of coffee I have had at WDW, but I am still searching for that OMG cup.  I would love some suggestions.

Send in the Plaid

I am such an admirer of Disney's branding and merchandising.  Wondering the shops at any of the WDW theme parks is like being in a merchandising class.  I am especially amazed on how Mickey Mouse is being reinvented to attract new and returning fans.  At the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney I came across these new and trendy version of my favorite mouse.

Bright and cheerful was this plaid Mickey.  He was stacked among what seemed to be a hundred of the same.  They draw my attention like a fashionable plaid skirt.

The next rack was decked out in this herringbone Mickey.  Classy and sophistication in  a stuffed souvenir.  Oh my!

Don't just shop while vising WDW,  admire and take in their merchandising skills.  It is almost like viewing sculpture.

The Precious Moment of Boo

I am not a fan of Precious Moments figurines, but this little one catch my attention from across the store.

One of my favorite characters in a Disney movie Boo, from Monsters Inc is sweetly captured here.  Even I have to say Awww!

Finding Mickey Mouse

Where can you find this Hidden Mickey?  He can be found in Disney Downtown Market Place at one of my favorite shops.  Need a Hint:  This shop always has the latest trends in fashion and accessories.

This chic black and white Mickey can be found at the fashionable TrenD  boutique near the register.

If you have a Hidden Mickey you would like to share please contact me and I would love to post it.

Mickey and the Nazzar Boncuk

The Nazar Boncuk, also know as the Evil Eye charm is now joined together with Mickey Mouse.  What is the Evil Eye charm?  The earliest know written reference to the evil eye is on a Sumerian clay tablet from the 3rd millennium B.C.  It was (still is) widely believed in ancient cultures that a harm could befall you from a simple gaze.  Usually  the look was from jealousy of your wealth, beauty, or good fortune.  To protect yourself you could wear or hang a talisman.   A disk consisting of concentric circles representing the eye is common in Middle Eastern cultures.  The staring eyes are suppose to bend the malicious gaze back to the sender.  The Nazar Boncuk charm is usually set on a blue or red background.  Blue represents water which is symbol of prosperity for ancient societies.  Red is know as good luck and fortune in traditional Jewish culture.

A great marriage of fun and joy with good luck and fortune is represented in this "Evil Eye of Mickey".  Of course these do deviate from the traditional, but the can still give you some joy.  I found these at Disney's Days Of Christmas in Downtown Disney Marketplace.

Finding Mickey Mouse

Have you seen this Hidden Mickey?  He can be found in Disney Downtown Market Place at one of my favorite shops.  Need a hint: You can satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooth's here.

This wonderful wood gain in the shape of Mickey can be found at Goofy's Candy Company. He is near the cashier where you can get some yummy coffee.

Vinylmation

Fore the past few years I have watched the shops at all 4 WDW theme parks fill up with vinyl figures of Mickey Mouse that are not really Mickey.  They are shaped like Mickey and designed to represent other charters, holidays, events and whatever you can image.  I have actually thought about buying a few, but quickly decided against it.  There are about $9.95 and in a blind box, which means you do not know which one you are getting.  Lets be frank, there are not many that I found cute or fun, so why take the chance and get one I don't like.

The window at Art of Disney in Epcot
Disney Vinylmation arrived in Walt Disney World Resorts with a kick-off event on Friday December 19, 2008.  You can now find the invading collectibles everywhere.

The gift shop at the exit of DINOSAUR in The Animal Kingdom Park

I visited the mecca of Vinylmation at Downtown Disney West Side on my visit in August 2010.  D-Street opened on April 16th celebrated with tons of Disney festivities.  Center stage is a design station where guest can create their own Vinylmation. You can purchase a blank figure and personalize it with pens, stick-on eyes and mouths, stickers, and gems.  The "guest designer" sits at a 6' x 6' table with 782 decorated figures displayed under a glass top and a sculpture of Mickey standing on it.  Look closely at Mickey and you will see he is made up of mini Vinylmation.  This drew me into the store.  The table and sculpture are brilliant, it almost made me want to design one. No, I did not do it.

Will their popularity last much longer?  The Disney pins are still going strong.  I always look for pins to buy when I am at  WDW.  But Vinylmatin I just don't get.  I appreciate it for the abstract artistry, but for $10 this Disney souvenir will not come home with me.

A Christmas Tree for a Princess

In Downtown Disney it is Christmas 365 days a year in a shop called Disney's Days of Christmas.  It is a most stop for me every time I am at WDW.  The happy spirit of Christmas is always in the air and the skill of Disney merchandising is at it's best.  The displays will inspire you to be creative with your own Christmas decorations.

This table top tree is filled with all the fun a princess fan could want.  Bell, Snow White, Ariel and Cinderella ornaments are on display. But, how else but Disney could have thought of making the tree an actual princess.  This photo really does not show you how cute it is.
