Sunday's Silly Moments

I admit it I am obsessed with Duffy the Bear!

Happy Disney 2012

A big welcome to 2012! My annual pass to WDW doesn't expire until April so bring on the fun.  I know for the past few months I have not been keeping up with the blog.  One of my resolutions is to use my annual pass to the fullest and share WDW from my perspective.

When I deiced to set daily blogging as one of my resolutions I started thinking about why?  I mean this is a big commitment to make, not even knowing how many people are reading.  Putting my memories of WDW in writing actual make me smile. Thinking about past visits and future ones brings Disney back into my life for a moment.  How could I not continue to provide myself this therapy?  I hope that you all enjoy the ride.

I have deiced to add a few other categories, beyond WDW and into my own personal life.  They will include:

1.  The life of the family pets - we have 5 dogs, 6 cats and 1 bird, seriously some crazy things happen.

2.  Favorite Deals of the week - coupons, contest, free samples and sales that were the highlights of my week that you may want to check out.

3.  Weekly Blog to better Health - what I have learned for the week to help me reach my  goal to better health this year.

4.  Disney fun outside of the resort - items, people, books or movies that are part of the Disney magic.

5.  The Adventures of Pal Mickey - That's right I have a Pal Mickey and he still loves to visit the parks.

I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year and Thanks for sticking with me.

A Temporary Hidden Mickey Mouse

On a rainy afternoon at the Magic Kingdom, my husband and I ducked into Cosmic Ray's Starlight cafe, to grab a bite to eat. As we enjoyed a burger and a quite moment I spotted a cast member joyously cleaning the windows.  He smiled and hummed while he cleaned.  Surprisingly, with only a hand few of people in the cafe, he was creating one of my favorite kinds of Hidden Mickeys.  With his foaming window cleaner he drew Mickey after Mickey only to wipe them away.  He was delighted in making anyone chuckle, who happened to noticed what he was doing.  However, he really seemed to amuse himself the most.

Keep your eyes open, you never know what special moment you will come upon.

Figment of my Imagination

The last two visits a Epcot I found myself  at Image Works.  I have not paid much attention to the Imagination pavilion over the past few years.  Like so many other WDW fans, I miss the original version of the Journey to Imagination ride.  The Image Works Lab was something you just had to walk through in order to get out.  On these hot days, here in Florida I am always looking for a place to cool off.  The backwards fountain and leaping fountain called my name for a chance to get wet.  I noticed Image Works.  I went in, not matter how bad it is, I can still get cooled off.

To my surprise I found a few moments of entertainment, The "Compose your Own Figment".  Figment is one of the beloved characters at Epcot.  He is a purple dragon made of all different animal parts, usually wearing a yellow sweater.  At Image Works you are given the chance put together your own Figment and have it emailed to your home.

OK it is not drawing, but you pick the color, wings, body type, head and horns.  I have fond memories of Figment as a child and for a free activity at WDW, this is fun.  The email did take a few weeks to be received, which if I was a kid, would be disappointing.    As an adult, be a kid and just have some silly fun and try it out.

For a great website on the History of Image Works check out The Epcot Legacy.

Good Night Magic Kindom

One of my favorite memories of the Magic Kingdom is the balloon vendor. They bring to being 7 on my first trip to MK and how amazed I was by those balloons.  I don't think I had seen that many before, held by one person.  As an adult the balloons make me feel melancholic.  I know my day is almost over and time to leave the Disney magic.  I will admit I get one once a year.

On the Road June 9, 2010

Good Morning!  Here is my first test. The sun is shinning, look like it is going to be hot.   Fury kids are sad to see us go out.  On the road and looking forward to a fun day.

Android Blogger App

Today I am heading out to WDW and going to try out my Android Blogger App.  I have read both good and bad things, hoping for the best.  I least I know I will have fun at WDW.

The Enchanted Tiki Room Revisited as an Adult

I do not have a visual memory of the Enchanted Tiki Room from my first visit to the Magic Kingdom in 1977.  I was only seven.  However the song, Tiki Tiki Tiki Room still gets caught in my head to this day.  On all other visits with my parents to WDW I never saw those singing birds.  My mom hated it and always made fun of it when we would walk by the pavilion.  Actually there is only one thing she likes in Adventureland, but that is for another day.  She would mock the show with a bad rendition of the song and laughingly say, "you don't want to go in there."  Secretly I did.  Fortunately I did get to visit in 1995 on my honeymoon, before it was refurbished.  I miss that version, but still enjoy this guilty pleasure.  The songs, the birds and the tikis all make me smile.  I think this is what started my love for all things tiki.

A little history of the Enchanted Tiki Room.  The original attraction opened in 1963 at Disneyland.  It was the first fully auto-animatronic show at Disney.  The concept was worked on personally by Walt Disney.  Upon returning from a trip to New Orleans with a little mechanical bird, Mr. Disney became determined to improve on the bird and to build a show around it.  After settling on a tropical island theme, the dining show was to be placed in Adventureland.  That is right, the Tiki Room was suppose to be a restaurant, with the animatronic birds performing while you dined.  A few weeks before opening the restaurant was turned into an attraction.  I could not find the reason for this change, if anyone knows please share.  The attraction was a success.

On October 1, 1971 the Enchanted Tiki Room - Tropical Serenade" opened at the Magic Kingdom Orlando.  The show was the same except for the opening.  The original version featured a waterfall that parted to introduce you to Clyde & Claude, a wonderful feathered pair.  The songs and dialogue were the same as the California version.  An almost forgotten fact about the WDW version is the orange bird.  The original sponsor for the attraction was the Florida Citrus Growers.  The pavilion that houses the birds was called the Sunshine Tree Pavilion. You would even be greeted by the mascot.

The show itself was a marvel of birds singing some great lyrics.  It really was impressive to see, knowing that this were not just puppets.  With waning crowds and what some thought to be a corny show the Tropical Sernade was closed in 1997 for renovation. It did reopen in 1998 with the addition of Zazu from the Lion King and Iago from Aladdin, as the new management.  These additions have not been well received.

I enjoy the new show, but long for the old.  There are lots of rumors of changes to come soon for the Tiki birds.  I hope it returns to the classic.

A Postcard from Coronado Springs

Hanging near my desk is this postcard from Disney's Coronado Springs Resort.  I got it while staying there in 2000.  It was free, in my room.  When every I look at it, I am reminded of swimming in their Mayan-ruin themed pool.  How, amazing is it to be swimming and look up and see a pyramid.

I am not sure if they still have these postcards in the room, I hope the do.  It was a great free souvenir, that I enjoy all the time.

Reflections of the Castle

Everyone that has seen Cinderella's Castle has released a sigh and then a giggle of joy.  "I am here, the Happiest Place on Earth"  Once that moment passes, take the time to walk around the castle, through the tunnel, enjoy all of it's detail and magic.  Even the mote offers a different perceptive.  Just look at my photo again, it actual is the reflection of the castle in the mote's water.

OMG, I was going through my albums looking for a photo a  second reflection.  I guess I have the beauty in this before.

Pook-a-Looz Woody

I know we have been seeing these toys for months now on everyone's blogs, at least I have.  I was not paying much mind to them until, I walk into Frontier Trading Post at the Magic Kingdom.  There before we was a wall of  Pook-a-Looz Woody.  Overwhelmed with cuteness I had to touch them.  As it even stated on the tag "Too Cute For Their Own Good".  They wanted to come home with me, but no at $12.95 a piece I had to settle for this photo.

The Disney Traveler and the Crazy Hat

I was going through some old photos and was wondering something.  Why is it when we enter any Disney park we are compelled to wear and buy crazy hats?  Not only, do we sport them proudly, we document them in photographs.  Here are a few mine, I would love to see yours.

My Mickey Topiary

This is my last post about the 2010 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.  Every year I am so inspired by all the beautiful gardens and landscaping.  This year I purchased my own Mickey topiary.

Here is Mickey when I first got home in April 2010.
