Eli's Orange World - Hwy 192
Eli's Orange World
While in Orlando it is always fun to take a drive down Hwy 192. There are many tourist shops and attractions which make me smile. Eli's Orange World is one of them. During our visit in March, I made Jason stop after dinner.
Florida's state fruit is the orange, so why would you not expect a large shop shaped as one. Eli's Orange World is billed as the world's largest orange, though it is technically only the top half of an orange. This landmark opened in 1973. They ship citrus throughout the U.S., and sells a variety of fresh fruit, candies, souvenirs and freshly-squeezed orange juice.
The orange dome weighs 35,000 pounds and is 92 feet across. The store has been featured in PBS programs on roadside attractions. It appeared, briefly, in a 1996 movie called “Marvin’s Room” with Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton and Leonardo DeCaprio.
While driving down West 192, don't miss Orange World's sixty-foot fiberglass dome. Stop for a free sample, a photo and a souvenir.
